Matt Connors’ abstract paintings often evolve through a process that he has described as ‘cross pollination’ or ‘contamination’, with one work transferring paint or other elements to another. The screen print that forms the basis for this series of works on paper repeats a linear composition from ‘Hocket’, the title painting of Connors’ current exhibition in New York. In music, hocket refers to the division of a melody between two parts, notes in one part coinciding with rests in the other.
