With a multitude of works, Benoît Platéus focuses on supposedly meaningless artefacts from everyday life. For his ongoing series “Jugs”, the artist uses empty containers, which once contained chemicals for the production of analog photographs, as molds. Each sculpture, cast from several layers of urethane, has a unique color nuance due to the random production process and embodies the potential of an image in the making, resembling the process of photographic development.
Benoît Platéus’ (b. 1972, Liège, BE) work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including WIELS, Brussels (2019); Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2016); Mu.ZEE, Ostende (2013); S.M.A.K., Ghent (2006).
